Fair election impossible under current advisory council: Ishraque

BNP leader Ishraque Hossain on Friday (June 6) alleged that the current advisory council of the interim government has lost neutrality, saying no fair and acceptable election is possible under their oversight.

He made the remark while visiting the National Eidgah ground around 12 noon to inspect preparations for Eid-ul-Azha prayers.

"We are not treating the advisers as enemies or threatening them. We are only saying that if they want to do politics, they should resign and join political parties openly. We welcome them if they do so," he said.

When asked in what capacity he came to inspect the ground, Ishraque said, “I came as the elected Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation, as declared by the verdict of the country’s highest court.”

In response to another question, Ishraque said, “No administrator or adviser will be allowed to sit in the Nagar Bhaban. If there’s any need for temporary administration, we’ll form something like a Revolutionary Dhaka Council, including former ward commissioners, councillors, journalists, and school principals from Ward 75 to run the office. But I want to make it very clear — there’s no turning back, and no room for surrender.”
