In response to the ongoing crisis surrounding the recent jet crash, BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Tuesday called for national unity and calm.
“During this mourning period in the nation, I call upon all pro-democracy stakeholders for calm and cohesion. We must form a society based on tolerance and restraint, and thus stop divisive confrontation or mob culture,” he said in a Facebook post.
Expressing grief over the tragedy, Tarique said, “Our hearts go out to the innocent lives lost and the families shattered. Bangladesh must remain united and face every crisis with solidarity.”
He also warned against attempts to exploit the tragedy, stating, “There are worrying reports of members of certain banned student political organisations causing agitation and instigating violence. These groups should restrain from taking advantage of this tragic moment.”
Tarique emphasized the need for empathy and cooperation, urging citizens to help locate the missing, support the injured, and ensure a thorough investigation into the crash.
“Let’s pour our energy into helping to account for loved ones who have been lost and find those who are missing, ensure those injured receive the very best treatment possible, and allow a proper investigation by the authorities as to the root cause of the plane crash,” he added.
