Hasnat Abdullah, chief coordinator (southern region) of the National Citizens' Party (NCP), has demanded the resignation of Health Adviser Noorjahan Begum, alleging nepotism by Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus.
Hasnat brought the allegation while speaking at a rally in Chandpur town on Wednesday (July 23).
He said the Health Adviser is the "clearest example of favouritism" under the interim government. He called for her to return her salary and government benefits and resign immediately, claiming she lacks qualifications and effectiveness in her role.
Referring to recent aviation and building disasters, Hasnat said, “We do not want a Bangladesh where planes crash and buildings collapse.
He also raised concerns over the safety of armed forces personnel, calling for proper inspection of military equipment. “Our brothers in the Air Force must be protected. It is time to verify if the equipment they use is risk-free,” he said.
Criticising the Health Adviser further, Hasnat questioned her competence and alleged she was appointed due to her links with Dr Yunus through Grameen Bank.
“She has no understanding of healthcare or medical services. Her only qualification is her association with Yunus. Her salary, her car—these are all funded by taxpayers. That’s a betrayal to the public,” he added.
