Former Awami League minister Latif Siddique and several others were handed over to police by an agitated crowd after being confined inside the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) on Thursday (August 28) around 11am.
They were reportedly confined on allegations that a secret Awami League meeting was being held there.
According to sources, the confinement followed a roundtable discussion organised at DRU by a platform called “71 Mancha”, which Siddique attended. A number of others also joined the programme, introducing themselves as journalists and teachers.
As the programme continued, an angry mob besieged the participants, alleging that the gathering was in fact a secret meeting of the Awami League. The crowd later handed Siddique and others over to police.
Subsequently, three police vehicles arrived and took away Siddique along with the rest of the detainees.
