BNP boycotts polls to 19-upazila

DHAKA: BNP, Jamaat and Awami League rebel candidates boycotted the polls to 19 upazilas in four districts in the fifth phase of upazila parishad elections on Monday.

The candidates for the chairman post boycotted polls alleging vote manipulation and polls violence in the electoral areas.

The upazilas include Ghatail of Tangail, Kalapara of Patuakhali, Chhagalnaiya of Feni, Madarganj of Jamalpur, Bamna and Amtali of Barguna, Gaffargaon of Mymensingh, Lauhajang of Munshiganj, Chandina of Comilla, Tala, Debhata and Sadar of Satkhira, Sadar and Ramganj of Laxmipur, Kashba of Brahmanbaria, Araihazar of Narayanganj, Sadar and Alamdanga of Chuadanga.

Earlier in the day, the vote casting of the fifth phase of fourth upazila polls started at 8:00am and ended at 4:00pm.
