DHAKA: Newly elected Awami League lawmakers from Jessore constituencies 1 and 2 Sheikh Afil Uddin and Monirul Islam took oath on Monday afternoon.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath at her office in the Parliament building around 3:45pm.
On Sunday, the Election Commission (EC), exempted Awami League leaders Sheikh Afil Uddin and Monirul Islam, who were unofficially elected as members of parliament from their alleged involvement in violation of the electoral code.
A gazette notification was published on Sunday declaring them as elected lawmakers where the four commissioners of EC signed.
On January 5, Afil was elected unopposed from Jessore-1 constituency and Monirul Islam won the polls from Jessore-2 in the 10th National Parliament polls.
The election commission cleared them from vote manipulation allegations after a hearing, which began at 11:00am on Sunday at the EC secretariat conference room.
The EC earlier issued notices to Sheikh Afil Uddin and Monirul Islam on charges of violation of the electoral code of conduct.
Both replied to the notices on January 15.
However, Deputy Speaker M Fajle Rabbi Mia, Chief Whip ASM Firoz, Whip Atiur Rahman Atik, Whip M Shahidujjaman Sarker, Whip Iqbalur Rahim and Whip M Shahab Uddin were also present in the oath taking program.
