DHAKA: A Juba League leader was involved in the snatching of three JMB convicts from a prison van through ambush after killing a cop in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh district.

Kamal Hossain, a detainee, who is now under custody of RAB, came up with the disclosure in a press conference organized by RAB at its Uttara Headquarters on Wednesday.

RAB Media Wing Director ATM Habibur Rahman said, “The detainees took part directly in the militant snatching incident but it’s a very common practice that when criminals held, they try to identify themselves as the ruling party activists.”

On Tuesday night, RAB arrested eight militants in connection with the snatching three JMB convicts in Mymensingh.

On February 22, in an audacious ambush, masked gunmen fired at and bombed a prison van in Mymensingh’s Trishal, killed a policeman and freed three convicts of banned outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) tied to 2005 serial bombings.

The attack left Constable Atiqul Islam, 30, killed and two other cops hurt.
