DHAKA: Jatiya Party participated in general elections, held on January 5, to bring peace in the country, said incumbent parliament opposition leader Roushan Ershad.
The JP leader said on Wednesday at the National Parliament’s media centre adding that it was a time when people were killed in the names of strikes, blockades and other anti-government movements.
There was no alternative except taking part in polls to bring peace as well as to keep the continuation of democracy in the country, she added.
Roushan, also the leader of JP parliamentary body, further said that people of the country want peace. They want to ensure their livelihood peacefully.
She said, according to the tradition of the parliamentary democracy it is opposition party’s duty to cooperate government.
‘We will cooperate with the government. We did not boycott national parliament, did not throw files even did not deliver any indecent speeches’, she added.
