DHAKA: The then Foreign Minister Dr Kamal Hossain left the country, after the murder of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975, by being admonished by BNP leader Barrister Abul Hasnat.
He failed to carry out his responsibilities as a foreign minister.
Dr Hasan Mahmud, publications and publicity secretary of incumbent Awami League, came up with these assertions after the meeting of Standing Committee on Ministry of Environment and Forest at media centre of Jatiya Sangshad on Wednesday.
He also said Dr Kamal Hossain did not even give any statement after the killing of Sheikh Mujib.
On the other hand, the then ambassador to Germany Dr Humayun Rashid Chowdhury gave shelter to Sheikh Hasina without any fear losing his job, he added.
Other members of the committee including Tipu Sultan, Nabi Newaz, Gola Rabbani also were present in the briefing.
After the independence of Bangladesh, Dr Kamal Hossain served as the Minister of Law (1972–1973), Minister of Foreign Affairs (1973–1975) and Minister of Petroleum and Minerals (1974–1975).
