NHRC fully independent, says Anisul

DHAKA: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Advocate Anisul Haque on Monday claimed that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is working independently.

“The government does not intervene of the activities of the human rights commission it is working independently,” he said. 

The law minister came up with the observation while addressing  a closing ceremony on ‘Australia and Bangladesh: Sharing Experiences on Protection of Human Rights’ at BRAC Centre Inn in the city in the afternoon. 

The commission had been working independently and they will in the same manner in future, he added.

Regarding the public interest litigation, he also said judiciary sometimes willingly takes several steps that they encouraged.

“But the court should be alert regarding the matter so that none can create anarchy,” he said.

The programme was also attended, among others, by Justice Imman Ali and Australian High Commissioner Greg Wilcock
