DHAKA: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday appealed in the Appellate Division against the bail of BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain in money laundering case.
Justice Khurshid Alam of the ACC appealed on Thursday. The hearing of the case is scheduled to be held on July 20 in a bench led by chief justice Md Mozammel Hossain.
Earlier on July 9, the High Court bench comprising of Justice M Rezaul Karim and Justice Gobinda Chandra Thakur passed the order of Mosharaf’s bail on three conditions.
The conditions include depositing his passport in the court, no foreign trip without court permission and no contact with the accusing finance institution.
Then the defense lawyers claimed that there is no bar for his release as he got bail in the case.
Mosharraf is now under treatment in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (PG) under the jail authorities.
On March 12, a team of ACC and Gulshan Thana Police jointly conducted a drive and raided Khandaker Mosharraf’s Gulshan residence and picked up him around 10:00pm Wednesday for his alleged involvement in laundering money.
The anti-graft body further said the BNP leader deposited around Tk 9.53 crore illegally in two UK-based banks in 2001-2005 while he was minister of BNP-led government.
Mosharraf owned a huge amount of wealth during that period, ACC sources added.
