DHAKA: BNP Senior Joint Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Friday blamed government’s “wrong policy” for the “anarchy in the garment sector”.
He made the comment after placing wreaths at the mazar of BNP founder and slain President Ziaur Rahman. Fakhrul accompanied BNP’s student affairs secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annee MP, who was just released from detention, in the homage-paying ceremony.
Fakhrul’s remark came on the heels of a spell of violence in the capital during protest against the new wage scale for garment workers.
“Instead of solving the problems of the country’s people, the government is out to establish BAKSAL through constitutional amendment,” the BNP leader alleged.
He also said Saturday’s meeting of the party Executive Committee will discuss the recent political situation and other organizational matters.
Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque, Joint Secretary-General Amanullah Aman, Abul Khayer MP and Adviser to the BNP Chairperson Shamsuzzaman Dudu were among others present.
