DHAKA: District BNP units separately called a daylong hartal for Monday in Gazipur, Tangail, Narayanganj, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Comilla, Bogra and Noakhali (Chatkhil upazila) districts amid the nonstop countrywide blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.

In Gazipur, BNP-led alliance called a dawn-to-dusk hatal in the district for Monday protesting the confinement of its chief Khaleda Zia to her Gulshan office and detention of senior BNP leaders.

BNP central committee organizing secretary AKM Fazlul Haque Milon, also Gazipur district BNP president, confirmed the matter to banglanews over cell phone at 9:58am Sunday.

When asked about sufferings to Ijtema devotees due to hartal along with blockade, he said that they will return home by Sunday after attending the Akheri Munajat, so hartal will not create any problem.

In Tangail, the district unit of Chhatra Dal, student wing of BNP, has called a daylong hartal here protesting the confinement of Khaleda Zia and filing cases against Chhatra Dal leaders and activists.

Chhatra Dal’s Tangail district unit president Khandaker Rashedul Alam Rashed declared the hartal around 12:30pm at a press conference, held at Bangabandhu auditorium in district press club.

He, at that time, also urged all the leaders and activists to stay on the street during the hartal.

In Narayanganj, district BNP called daylong shutdown for Monday in Narayanganj.

The hartal was called to protest arresting the party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and filing cases against local 20-party-alliance leaders and activists.

City BNP general secretary ATM Kamal confirmed the matter.

In Manikganj, the district BNP called a daylong hartal on the day protesting the confinement of Khaleda Zia and arresting Mirza Fakhrul.

A press release, signed by BNP senior vice-president Advocate Dr Mokhlesur Rahman, said that the hartal will be observed from 6:00am to 6:00pm of the day.

In Munshiganj, BNP-led alliance called here a dawn-to-dusk hatal in the district on the day protesting the confinement of its chief Khaleda Zia to her Gulshan office and detention of senior BNP leaders.

The decision came on Sunday noon from an alliance meeting.

District BNP president Abdul Hye confirmed the hartal.

In Bogra, the BNP-led 20-party alliance has extended the duration of hartal, earlier which was scheduled to be ended at 6:00am of Monday, in Bogra till Tuesday 6:00am.

The BNP district unit office secretary confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said that the alliance has declared the general strike protesting the confinement of Khaleda Zia.

In Noakhali, Upazila unit of BNP called a daylong shutdown at Chatkhil upazila for Monday.

Regarding the matter, upazila BNP unit general secretary Peyar Ahamed told banglanews that the hartal will be observed from 6:00am to 6:00pm.

He added: “The hartal has been announced to protest detaining upazila’s Parkort union Jubo Dal convener M Yunus and his son M Milon, also the joint convener of local Chhatra Dal unit.”

In Comilla, district BNP called a daylong general strike in the district for Monday on same demand.

South district organizing secretary Yusuf Molla confirmed the matter to banglanews.
