HC asks to stop hartal-blockade

DHAKA: The High Court on Sunday asked the government to take initiatives against the acts of violence and sabotage unleashed during hartals and blockades.

An HC bench comprising Justice Quazi Rezaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Mohammad Saifur Rahman issued the order after preliminary hearing of a writ petition.

Lawyers Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Abdul Baset Majumder, Abdul Matin Khasru, Sahara Khatun among others stood for the writ petition.

Abdul Matin Khasru told journalists that the High Court ordered to take stern actions against them who are obstructing to hold SSC examinations in the country in the name of hartal and blockade.

Besides, the court issued rule upon government to explain why the shutdowns and blockade should not be banned during SSC examination.

The HC, in its rule, asked to explain why initiatives should not be taken against the violent activities during hartal and blockade.

Home Secretary, Law Secretary, Foreign Secretary, IGP of Police, DG of RAB, DG of BGB, DMP Commissioner, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Acting Secretary General of the party Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Bikalpa Dhara Chief Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury and 150 others were made the respondents to the rule.

Keraniganj Ispahani School Managing Committee President Shafiul Azam Barku and a businessman of Keraniganj Shahinur Rahman filed the writ petitions in this regard.
