DHAKA: Former telecom minister Abdul Latif Siddique, whose comment on religion stirred controversy, was shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Saturday morning.
Sources told banglanews that the ruling Awami League leader, who was undergoing treatment at a prison cell in the hospital’s general ward, was shifted to ICU around 10:45am as his health condition deteriorated.
Confirming the matter, Dhaka Central Jail senior super Farman Ali said that Latif Siddique has been suffering from old age complications including cardiac diseases.
Earlier on September 28 of last year, Latif Siddique made derogatory comments on Hajj and Ijtema while addressing a program in the USA.
However, he was sacked from the cabinet and later was arrested following several lawsuits across the country.
