215 ‘anarchists’ detained in 6 dists

DHAKA: Law enforcement agencies, in 24-hour drives, detained a total of 215 suspected anarchists, including 50 leaders-activists of BNP-Jamaat at different places in six districts, including the capital, of the country.

Dhaka and Khulna Metropolitans police, four other districts police separately said that the people were rounded for their alleged involvement in subversive activities across the country during non-stop blockade and frequent hartals.

In capital, DMP, in its 24-hour operation, detained seven activists of BNP and four activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from different areas.

Legal action would be taken against the detainees, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan police.

In Satkhira: A total of 77 people, including 19 activists of BNP-Jamaat, were arrested by police in the district on charge of sabotage, said sub-inspector Kamal Hossain, information officer of district police.
 
In Jessore: At least 54 people, including Avoynagar Upazila BNP president Motiur Rahman Faraji, were detained by police in separate drives at eight upazilas.

The detainees will be produced before Jessore court on Sunday noon, said Jessore District police control room.

In Khulna, police, in 24-hour raid till Sunday morning, arrested 48 accused in different cases from eight thanas of the metropolitan. 

Involvement with any political party was not found against the arrestees, said Moniruzzaman, ADC of KMP special branch.

In Chandpur: police detained six BNP activists from Sadar, Faridganj and Hajiganj upazilas of the district.

In Manikganj, At least seven activists of BNP were held from two upazilas of the district apprehending subversive activities during first day of 72-hour hartal called by BNP-led alliance.
