LAKSHIMIPUR: Two persons sustained bullet injuries in a ‘gunfight’ with police on Ramgoti-Lakshimipur road in Komolnagar Upazila of the district early Monday.

The injured Mayn Uddin, 32, an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami and resided in Charkalkini vilalge and Arif Hossian, 24, an activist of Jubo Dal, hailed from Char Jangalia village of the upazila.

During the clash, three policemen, including Komolnagar Thana officer-in-charge Kabir Ahmmad, received minor injuries.

Following the gunfight that took place at 12:45am, law enforcers recovered four petrol bombs from the spot.

Injured Jamaat and Jubo Dal activists were admitted to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital while the three policemen were given first aid.

Confirming the matter, Komolnagar Thana assistant sub-inspector Rezaul Karim Reza told banglanews that Jubo Dal and Jamaat-Shibir men put barricade on Ramgoti-Lakshimipur road cutting roadside trees at night.

When a patrol team of police approached the spot, blockaders hurled petrol bomb and cocktail as well as opened fire targeting them. In retaliation, police also fired gunshots on self-defense, leaving the duo injured by bullets.

The other blockaders, however, managed to escape the spot.

Later, police whisked away the injured to the hospital.
