34 ‘saboteurs’ held in 3 dists

DHAKA: Law enforcement agencies, in several drives, detained 34 men of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and its students wing Chhatra Shibir in Dhaka, Chittagong and Chandpur districts.

They were detained for their alleged involvement in ongoing sabotages in the areas.

In city, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained 14 men of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir from different places.

Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Media) of DMP and Public Relations Department, confirmed the matter to banglanews on Sunday.

Among them, seven are activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Shibir while other seven are BNP activists.

Police rounded up them in 24-hour drives from Saturday morning to 8:30am Sunday.

Legal action would be taken against the detainees.

DMP source also added that the drives will continue to nab anarchists.

In Chittagong, police, overnight drives, detained nine activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami from several thanas of the district.

District Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) Muhammad Naimul Hasan confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Chandpur, 11 men of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami were held from district Sadar, Faridganj and Kachua upazilas of the district on allegation of planning to create sabotage.

Chandpur SP M Amir Zafar confirmed the matter to banglanews.
