CHAPAINAWABGANJ: At least one person was killed and another injured as masked miscreants blasted petrol bombs on three trucks and a cargo truck on Kansat and Shibganj upazilas of the district from Monday night to early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Shipon, 30, driver of the cargo truck, son of one A Mannan, hailed from Borkhan area of Bhola.

Police alleged that the blockaders were involved in the arson attacks from 10:00pm to 5:00am Tuesday.

Local sources said masked miscreants led the arson attack on a Sonamasjid-bound truck at Kagchipara of Kansat around 10:30pm, two more trucks at Shibganj academy intersection area around 11:15pm and a cargo truck at Kalabari area of Kansat around 5:00am.

On-duty Ansar member Idul told banglanews that miscreants scattered thorns on the road at Shibganj academy intersection area.

A gang of 20-25 of them blasted 4-5 cocktails and set fire to the trucks by blasting petrol bombs, he added.

Meanwhile, miscreants blasted petrol bombs when a cargo truck entered a roadside garden as the driver lost his control over the steering at Kalabari area of Kansat, leaving the driver burnt to death and helper injured.

The body of cargo truck driver Shipon was sent to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital for an autopsy and helper Shakil was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.

Chapainawabganj deputy commissioner Zahangir Kabir and police super Basir Ahmed and 9-BGB Battalion commander Abu Zafar Sheikh M Bazlul Haque said they would conduct a combing drive in the area.

Meanwhile, police detained 12 BNP and Jamaat-Chhatra Shibir activists from the area for their alleged involvement with the incidents.
