DHAKA: A Dhaka court granted 10-day fresh remand for Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Mannna in a sedition case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ataul Haq passed the order when police produced him before court after the end of 10-day remand in another case Saturday.

Manna stood for himself in the hearing and said, “I am patient of high blood pressure and cardiac deceases, and capable of endure certain level of mental pressure. But law enforcers put excessive mental pressure on me that left me sick for four hours and there was no doctor.”

“I am feeling insecure about my life as I can’t bear more pressure. So I am appealing for bail,” he added.

On March 5, a sedition case was filed against Mahmudur Rahman Manna and BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka with Gulshan Thana.

Manna was arrested on February 24, a day after the leak of his controversial telephone conversation with Khoka, now in the USA on treatment purpose.

The next day a Dhaka court placed the Nagorik Oikya convener on a ten-day remand in a case filed with Gulshan Police Station for “trying to instigate revolt by the armed forces”.

In the conversation, Manna, also a former organising secretary of the Awami League, was heard talking to Khoka about strengthening the anti-government movement, among other issues.
