No one detains Salahuddin Salahuddin Ahmed

DHAKA: None of the law enforcing forces detained BNP joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed and none of them knew his whereabouts.

Attorney General Mahbube Alam placed a report to the High Court mentioning that information on Sunday.

Earlier on the day, five law enforcing agencies submitted their reports to attorney general denying detention of BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed, who remained traceless for couple of days.

However they said their ongoing effort to know Salahuddin’s whereabouts is on.

On Thursday (March 12) HC issued a rule upon government to explain why directions should not be given to find out Salauddin Ahmed and produce him before it within March 15.

A HC bench comprising Justice Quamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Govinda Chandra Thakur passed the order in response to a petition filed by Salauddin’s wife Hasina Ahmed.

Earlier on the day, on behalf of Hasina Ahmed, Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain filed the appeal with the court. Hasina, in her appeal, sought HC directives upon the government to produce her husband before the court in 24 hours.

Home secretary, Inspector general of police (IGP) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner were made respondents to the rule.

Besides, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar and A J Mohammad Ali moved for the petition in the court. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state.

Family members of Salauddin and BNP on March 11 alleged that law enforcers along with RAB personnel detained him from Uttara in city after 10:00pm on March 10 (Tuesday).

However, RAB, police or detective branch denied detaining Salauddin.

BNP leader Salahuddin has been announcing party programmes from a hidden place since long till his alleged detention.
