DHAKA: Dhaka Money Loan Court-1 Sunday issued summon against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, late Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife and their daughters in the Dandy Dyeing loan default case
Acting judge Ruksana Parvin Happy of the court, in its order, asked them to appear before on April 12, the date of framing the charges.
They will have to appear before court in person or by the lawyers.
Arafat Rahman Koko, younger son of the BNP chief, was accused in the case filed by Sonal Bank for default loans worth Tk 45.49 crore.
As he died, the court, on March 16, allowed the inclusion of Khaleda Zia, her daughter-in- law Sharmila Rahman and two grand daughters as defendants in a case.
On the day, the court fixed April 12 for framing the charges against the defendants.
Sonali Bank lawyer Jahangir Hossain filed a petition seeking the court’s summon order against the defendants.
Advocate Joynul Abedin Mezbah stood for the defendants while lawyer Jahangir Hossain and Advocate Hosne Ara Begum moved the plaintiff.
Besides, the court told the defendants that submit the High Court order by April 12 otherwise the issue will be formed on that day.
On March 8, Sonali Bank’s senior executive officer Nazrul Islam filed a petition in the court seeking its order to include Khaleda Zia, Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman and his daughters Jahiya Rahman, Jafiya Rahman as defendants of the case as inheritors.
Kheleda’s eldest son and Dandy Dyeing director Tarique Rahman is also a defendant.
Dandy Dying took load of Tk 13.14 crore from Sonali Bank on May 9, 1993. The bank waived interests following an application by the defendants on October 16, 2001.
On October 2, 2012, Sonali Bank filed the case against Tarique Rahman, Arafat Rahman Koko and others as the defendants failed to repay the loan.
The other defendants are Dandy Dying directors Giasuddin Al Mamun, his wife Shahina Begum, Nasrin Iskander, wife of late Sayeed Iskander, his sons Shams Iskander and Shafin Iskander and daughter Sumaiya Iskander, Gazi Galib Abdus Sattar, Shamsun Nahar and Masud Hassan.
On October 3, the court appointed Advocate Abdus Salam to mediate the case.
But the defendants filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the case procedures.
