25 hurt in baton charge on 20-party rally

TANGAIL: At least 25 leaders and activists of BNP-led 20-party alliance were injured as police baton-charged the alliance people in Tangail municipality area on Sunday morning.

Five among the injured were admitted to hospital while the rest took first-aid treatment at Tangail Medical College and Hospital.

The admitted leaders and activists were identified as BNP senior vice-chairman Syed Shahin and activists Moslem, Rasel, Aminur and Rubel.

Local sources said leaders and activists of BNP-led alliance were gathering at the municipality park area in the town at 11:00am.

Later, police charged batons as the alliance people were trying to bring out a rally and dispersed them leaving 25 alliance people injured.
