DHAKA: A total of 980 aspirants collected nomination papers till Monday for the posts of mayors, councilors and reserved councilor for woman to contest in the upcoming polls at Dhaka South and North city corporations.
Of them, 344 took forms for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) while 636 are for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
DNCC Returning officer (RO) Shah Alam told banglanews that some 344 people collected the nomination forms for DNCC polls till fifth day.
Of them, 13 are mayoral aspirants, 269 are councilors and 62 are reserved councilors for woman aspirants, the RO added.
DSCC RO Mihir Sarwar Morshed told banglanews that some 636 people collected nomination forms so far.
Of them, some nine took the forms for mayoral posts, 525 for councilor and 102 for posts of the reserved councilor for woman, Mihir added.
Meanwhile, Election Commission served show cause notices to seven councilor aspirants at DSCC on Monday for violating the electoral code of conduct.
With this move, the commission had sent the notices to a total of 19 councilors at DSCC so far.
However, no candidate at DNCC was served show-cause notice yet, said RO Shah Alam.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced the election scheduled for two city corporations on March 18.
Polls at Dhaka’s two city corporations are scheduled to be held on April 28 while the last date of nomination paper submission is March 29.
