DHAKA: The fresh spell of 48-hour hartal, called by BNP-led 20-party alliance, is underway on Monday across the country, coupled with ongoing nationwide blockade.
Dhaka and Chittagong Metropolitan cities remained out of purview of the two-day shutdown due to city corporation elections.
The shutdown is being enforced from 6am and will continue till 6am on Wednesday.
No untoward incident was reported from anywhere across the country till filing of the report.
Earlier on Sunday, the announcement of 48-hour shutdown came from a press statement issued by BNP joint secretary general Barkat-ullah Bulu.
According the statement, the alliance will observe the countrywide shutdown demanding ‘safe return’ of enforce disappeared BNP leaders, including its joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, release of 20-party’s senior leaders and fresh parliamentary election under non-party neutral government.
People of the country, all levels leaders-activists of BNP and 20-party were asked to observe the 48-hour hartal and non-stop blockade peacefully.
