DHAKA: BNP-backed Abdul Awal Mintoo on Tuesday filed a writ petition with the Supreme Court challenging the rejection of his appeal plea against cancellation of his nomination paper for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral polls.
Mintoo’s lawyer BNP joint secretary general Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon filed the writ with chamber judge Hasan Foyez Siddique.
On April 6, the High Court rejected the writ petition filed by Abdul Awal Mintoo challenging the cancellation of his nomination paper in the forthcoming Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) election.
The HC bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Qazi M Ijarul Haque Akand cancelled the writ.
On April 5, Mintoo’s lawyer Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon filed the writ with the High Court.
On April 1, the returning officer cancelled Mintoo’s nomination paper that he submitted on March 29.
On April 2, Mintoo appealed with Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Zillar Rahman against the returning officer’s decision. Zillar Rahman rejected the appeal after holding a hearing at his office on April 4.
