KISHOREGANJ: A court here gave life term imprisonment to Ranjan Chowdhury, leader of the Indian separatist group- United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) and his aide Prodip Marak in arms and explosive cases.
The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, to serve 6 more months rigorous imprisonment.
District and Session Judge M Mahbub Ul Islam passed the verdict Wednesday.
The case statement reads-- Rapid Action Battalion arrested Ranjan Chowdhury and his associate Prodip from Bhairab Upazila on July 17 in 2010.
The ULFA leader, Ranjan Chowdhury alias Major Ranjan, had been staying in Bangladesh since 1997 and maintained contact with the group.
RAB recovered a foreign-made pistol, a revolver, four rounds of ammunitions and four hand grenades in their possession.
Ranjan Chowdhury is referred to as major Ranjan as he specializes in military training and had been working for ULFA since 1990.
