DHAKA: Pro-BNP professional platform Adarsha Dhaka Andolan convener Professor Emajuddin Ahmed on Friday demanded deployment of army personnel in Dhaka and Chittagong cities a week before the voting day.

Emajuddin came up with his demand when addressing a seminar tilted “City Corporations Polls amid Enforced Disappearance, Murder, and Arrest Fear” organized by Bangladesh Democratic Council at National Press Club in the city.

The former vice chancellor of Dhaka University said that the Election Commission is responsible to arrange a free and fair poll. For this reason, army will have to be deployed a week before the voting.

Election will not be held in free and fair manner if army is not deployed, Emajuddin feared.

Backed by BNP, Adarsha Dhaka Andolon has nominated two mayoral candidates for the Dhaka city polls - Mirza Abbas for Dhaka South City Corporation and Tabith Mohammad Awal for Dhaka north.

The city polls are scheduled to be held on April 28.
