DHAKA: The news about issuing a ‘Red Notice’ by The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) against BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman was propaganda.
BNP’s international affairs secretary Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon came up with the claim in a press conference at party’s Nayapaltan central office Wednesday noon.
He further said, “Interpol does not issue ‘Red Notice’, it just publishes information provided by its member countries. This is why, the organization just published information that was sent from here.”
He also said, “This so-called ‘Red Notice’ is nothing but a manifestation of speeches of some of the ministers of incumbent government, who said they would arrange Tarique’s trial by bringing him back through Interpol.”
“It is a drama,” he commented.
Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon also said no initiatives of the government would be successful to make BNP submissive.
According to the BNP leader, Tarique Rahman is not a fugitive. He is in London for medical treatment.
Ripon also warned the government saying any propaganda against (Khaleda Zia’s son) Tarique as well as (Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son) Sajeeb Wazed Joy would not be good for the future politics of the country.
However, BNP chairperson’s adviser Barrister Haider Ali, party’s assistant secretary on legal affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury, assistant office secretary Asadul Karim Shahin and joint general secretary of Swechhasebok Dal Professor Aminul Islam, among others, were present in the conference.
