DHAKA: BNP-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mirza Abbas’ wife Afroza Abbas claimed that they had been facing obstacles in poll campaigns since the very beginning of the city poll announcement.
She made the comment to the media after a meeting with veteran lawyer Barrister Rafiqul Haque in city’s Paltan area on Sunday morning.
Afroza alleged that the ruling Awami League cadres are creating hindrance from the very first day in the upcoming city polls.
They (cadres) are threatening the leaders and activists. Even, the government did not grant mayoral candidate Abbas’ bail.
Mentioning Abbas’ rights to seek vote, Afroza said, the government has deprived him (Abbas) from the rights. They are detaining poll candidates.
Moreover, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia faced attacks several times while came out for campaigns, Abbas’ wife said.
She also claimed that people are staying with them.
‘We will win in the elections, if there is no rigging’, Afroza hoped.
She further said that they will accept the poll results if people and the media admit the election as free and fair.
