DHAKA: The High Court (HC) deferred till May 4 the hearing to bail pleas of Mirza Abbas, BNP-endorsed mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation polls, in three corruption and sabotage cases.
The HC bench of Justice M Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan passed the deferment order in the corruption case on Monday in response to time petition.
On the other hand, the single bench of Judge Ruhul Kuddus deferred the hearing in the two sabotage cases as Khandakar Mahbub Hossain, lawyer of Mirza Abbas, filed petition seeking seven more days.
Deputy Attorney General Bashir Ullah moved for the state.
Abbas appealed for the bail petition on arson and explosive case filed with Paltan Thana on December 28 in 2014.
On the same year, Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed two cases with Shahbagh Thana on March 6 for corruption and Motijheel Thana on January 4 in 2015 under Explosive Act.
On April 15, the HC bench of Justice Quamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore dropped the bail petition from hearing list and asked to go to another bench.
Moreover, the bench of Justice Quamrul and Justice Gobinda gave split orders on two bail petitions filed by Mirza Abbas in connection with two vandalism and arson attack cases.
