DHAKA: Appellate division of the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing on appeal filed by Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed challenging his death penalty for his wartime crimes till Tuesday (May 5).

The four-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice SK Sinha on Monday passed the order after second day’s hearing.

The other members of the bench are Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and Justice Hassan Foyez Siddique.

The court, at first, heard the arguments placed by defense lawyers, beginning from April 29.

Mojaheed’s counsel SM Shahjahan placed his argument for the second day (Monday). While Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state.

Earlier on April 15, the apex court deferred the hearing on appeals of death row convict Jamaat leader Mojaheed in response to separate time petition of defense on ground of lawyer’s illness.

However, International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) awarded death sentence to Mojaheed on July 17, 2013.

Later, Mojaheed appealed against the verdict on August 11, 2013 seeking acquittal from the charges.
