Vote counting on at 3 postponed centers

DHAKA: Counting of votes for councilor posts in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) at three suspended polling centers is underway as voting ended at 4:00pm Monday.

Earlier, the voting began at 8:00am and continued till 4:00pm without any break amid heavy rainfall.

The centers are Kamalapur Railway High School under Ward No 8, Shyampur Ashraf Master High School under Ward No 53 and Suritola Primary School under Ward No 34.

Earlier on April 28, elections in three city Corporations -- Dhaka North, Dhaka South, and Chittagong -- were held amid the boycott of BNP-backed mayoral contenders partway through it.

But, voting at three centers under DSCC area was postponed following the clashes among rival councilor candidates.

Later, Election Commission (EC) published gazette notification of Annisul Huq as mayor and councilors of 36 wards of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Sayeed Khokon as mayor and councilors of 54 wards of DSCC.

The gazette of AJM Nasir Uddin as mayor and councilors of 41 wards of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) was also published.

According to EC, 2,283 voters are expected to cast their votes at Kamalapur Railway High School and 2,228 voters at Suritola Primary School and 1,815 voters to exercise their franchise at Shyampur Ashraf Master High School.
