DHAKA: Ruling Awami League (AL) is set to mark the Homecoming Day of its president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through a weeklong program starting from May 16.
AL presidium member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim came up with the disclosure at a press conference at AL president’s political office in the city’s Dhanmondi Monday afternoon.
A Homecoming Day Observance Committee was formed making Jatiya Snagsad Deputy Leader Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury and Mohammad Nasim convener and member secretary respectively.
Prior to the press conference, the committee held the meeting with its convener Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury in the chair.
Addressing the press brief, Nasim said that the weeklong program will begin with holding a discussion at Krishibid Institution auditorium at Khamar Bari at Farm Gate at 3:00pm on May 16. Dhaka City AL unit will organize the function where AL presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury will attend as the chief guest.
On May 17, national and party flags will be hoisted atop at the party offices across the country at dawn. Floral wreaths will be placed at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Dhanmondi Road-32 at 10:00am. The premier will also exchange greetings with leaders and activists of AL and its associate bodies as well as a cross section of people at Ganobhaban at 11:00am to mark the Day, Nasim told.
AL, and its associate, like-minded and other pro-liberation organizations will hold different programs on May 18, 19, 20 and 21. Besides, Nasim said, a colorful march will be brought out from the city’s Suhrawardy Udyan on May 22, which will end at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi.
Dhaka City AL general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, AL joint general secretaries Dr Dipu Moni and Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, organizing secretaries Ahmed Hossain, BM Mozammel Huq and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, publicity and publication affairs secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, deputy office secretary Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, information and research affairs secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, labour affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj and AL central working committee members Sujit Roy Nandi and Enamul Haque Shamim, among others, attended the meeting.
