DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia demanded immediate release of ailing senior leaders from jail along with all imprisoned leaders and activists of the party.
Signed by press secretary Maruf Kamal, the BNP chief’s statement said leaders including party’s vice-chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, joint-secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, sanding committee members Dr Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, among others, are honored as national leaders but kept in prisons for a long in false criminal and corruption cases.
Moreover, many of the leaders and activists are being tortured in police remands.
Many of them are now seriously ill due to the lack of proper medical treatment in the prisons, the statement added.
Mentioning the recent death of BRD mutiny convict and also BNP leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu, the BNP chief, in her statement, claimed that Pintu died due to negligence of the authorities concerned.
The statement also claimed that Mirza Abbas is not getting proper medical treatment though he is seriously ill.
The BNP chairperson also demanded immediate release of all leaders, who are in reprisal for different political views.
