DHAKA: The Supreme Court fixed June 16 to deliver its verdict on the appeal of the convicted war criminal Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed seeking his acquittal of all the charges.
The four-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice SK Sinha fixed the date as the arguments on appeal of the Jamaat leader ended Wednesday.
The other members of the bench are Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, and Justice Hassan Foyez Siddique.
In day’s proceedings, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam concluded placing his argument for the state. He also placed a 25-page written argument before the apex court on Wednesday, the ninth day of appeal hearing
Later, Mojaheed’s lawyer Shahjahan placed his reply to state arguments in the day.
Earlier on April 29, Defense counsels started reading out the paperbook of the appeal in the first day of hearing.
On May 18, the sixth day of appeal hearing, the defense lawyer concluded reading out the paperbook.
On July 17 in 2013, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced the Jamaat leader to death in connection with three charges, jailed him for life in one and sentenced him to five years in prison in another charge.
Later on August 11, Mojaheed filed the appeal with the apex court challenging the death penalty on charges of crimes against humanity.
