CHITTAGONG: Police, in nightlong special drives, detained 272 people, including 18 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Chhatra Shibir, form different Thanas of the districts.
Members of the law enforcement agency also recovered 6,130 pieces of Yaba tablets and 467 litres liquor during the drives.
Chittagong additional superintendent of police (special branch) Muhammad Naimul Hasan told banglanews that of the detainees, 28 were accused in regular cases while 226 others were wanted in several cases. Of them, 18 were activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Chhatra Shibir.
District additional superintendent of police (South) Habibur Rahman said police picked up 11 Jamaat men and seven Shibir men, who were accused in sabotage cases, in special drives at Lohagara, Banshkhali and Satkania Upazilas.
