Khaleda pays tribute to Zia

DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday paid tributes to late president Ziaur Rahman by placing floral wreaths at his grave marking his 34th death anniversary.

Khaleda Zia placed the wreaths flanked by party leaders and activists at his grave in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area around 12:00pm.

During the time, leaders and activists of the party chanted different slogans.

BNP chairperson’s adviser Barrister Shahjahan Omar, Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan, BNP Standing Committee Members Lt General (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, Vice Chairman Altaf Hsooain Chowdhury, Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf, Abdullah Al Noman, BNP International Affairs Secretary Dr Asaduzzman Ripon, Organising Secretary Fazlul Haque Milon, Jubo Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal were, among others, present

They also joined a special prayer (munajat) seeking salvation of Zia’s departed soul.

The mark the day, Leaders and activists of different units and associate bodies of the party, including Dhaka City BNP, Chhatra Dal, Swechchasebok Dal, Mohila Dal, Ulama Dal and JASAS, also paid tribute at Ziaur.

Ziaur Rahman, the founder of the BNP, was assassinated by a group of army officers at Chittagong Circuit House on May 30, 1981.
