BARISAL: Miscreants chopped dead a leader of Swechchasebok League over land dispute in Mehendiganj Upazila of the district Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Idris Majhi, 32, general secretary of Char Ekkaria Union Swechchasebok League of the upazila.

Upazila Swechchasebok League convener Ram Krishna Debanth confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Quoting relatives, Mehendiganj Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ujjal Kumar Dey told banglanews that Idris Ali had a longstanding clash with Rashid Hawlader, his mother’s paternal cousin.

On Friday morning, Rashid Hawlader’s son Iqbal Hawlader entered Idris’ house around 6am to charge mobile phone and chopped him indiscriminately.

Later, relatives took critically injured Idris to Upazila Health Complex where on duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.

The body was sent to morgue for autopsy, OC added.
