DHAKA: Supreme Court (SC) Appellate Division quashed a High Court order that had acquitted relief and disaster management minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya of graft charges.
A 3-member SC bench lead by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order Sunday. The bench also ordered for starting new hearing.
Earlier on October 27 in 2010, High Court scrapped a lower court verdict that awarded 13 year jail and Tk 5 crore fines to Maya on February 14 in 2008. The lower court also confiscated his wealth worth Tk 6 crore.
On June 13, assistant director of Anti-Corruption Commission Nurul Alam filed a case with capital’s Sutrapur Thana for acquiring wealth worth Tk 29 lakh.
