DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Tuesday denied the bail plea of Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of Pinu Khan of ruling Awami League lawmaker from reserved women’s seats and also general secretary of the party’s women wing, in a double murder case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Haque gave the order after holding a hearing in the morning.

On June 13, Rony was sent to jail when he was produced before the court after a 4-day remand.

The court also fixed June 16 as the date of hearing of the bail plea.

However, an auto-rickshaw driver Yakub Ali and a rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim were killed in a random firing from a black Land Cruiser Prado in city’s New Eskaton area around 1:45am on April 14.

MP Pinu Khan’s son Rony is said to have fired on them after being annoyed with “traffic jam” at midnight while “on drugs”.

Rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim’s mother filed the case two days after the incident with Ramna Thana.
