DHAKA: Jamaat-e-Islami has started observing a 24-hour hartal across the country since Wednesday morning.
Began at 6:00am, the shutdown will end at 6:00am on Thursday.
No picketing or unexpected incidents were reported till filing of the report.
Earlier on Tuesday, Jamaat called the nationwide shutdown protesting the Supreme Court (SC) verdict that upheld the death sentence to its secretary general Ali Ahsan Mojahid for his crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971.
A four-member bench of the SC’ Appellate Division led by Chief Justice SK Sinha delivered the verdict around 9:00am.
Ambulance, freezer van, vehicles of hospital, fire service will remain out of purview of hartal, said the press statement issued by Jamaat.
