MAGURA: Voting in by-election to Magura Sadar Upazila is underway on Tuesday.
The election, started at 8:00pm, will continue till 4:00pm without any break.
Presence of the voters was seen fewer in the morning. But the authorities concerned hope that the number will increase in late hours.
Ruling Awami League (AL)-backed candidate Rostam Ali and BNP-supported are fighting with the symbols of ‘horse’ and ‘motorbike’ respectively.
Returning officer Syed Rabiul Islam told banglanews that voting is underway at 105 centers. According to him, 84 poll centers have been marked as risky.
Two platoons Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), three platoons Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) along with police members have been deployed in the poll area.
The post of chairman was vacant after Magura Sadar Upazila Parisad chairman Nazim Uddin (70) had died of cancer on April 22.
