Maya appeals for review

DHAKA: Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya Monday filed a petition to review Supreme Court (SC) verdict quashing a High Court order that acquitted him of graft charges.

His lawyer Abdul Baset Mozumder filed the petition to concerned department of Appellate Divisaion.

On June 14, a 3-member SC bench lead by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order and also asked for starting new hearing.

Earlier on October 27 in 2010, High Court scrapped a lower court verdict that awarded 13 year jail and Tk 5 crore fines to Maya on February 14 in 2008. The lower court also confiscated his wealth worth Tk 6 crore.

On June 13, assistant director of Anti-Corruption Commission Nurul Alam filed a case with capital’s Sutrapur Thana for acquiring wealth worth Tk 29 lakh.
