DHAKA: Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Hazaribagh thana unit president Arju, the prime accused in Raja murder case, was killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in city early Tuesday.

Bullet-injured Arju, 28, was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival, he added.
RAB-2 commanding officer (CO) Lieutenant Colonel Masud Rana said Arju allegedly beat the 17-years-old Raja to death on Monday (August 17) morning on charge of stealing a mobile phone set.
Later, Raja’s sister Reshma Akhter Shabana filed a case with the thana against 14 including BCL leader Arju as prime accused.
Masud Rana said RAB-2 members arrested Arju from the area around 11:30 pm.
Later, RAB members along with Arju went to Baroikhali area to nab other accused. Sensing presence of the elite force members, Arju’s cohorts opened fire, prompting the Rab men to fire back, he added.
Later, the bullet-hit Arju was found at the scene, Lt Col Masud said.
“We are continuing the drive to arrest other accused,” he added.
