DHAKA: A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s advisory council member Shaukat Mahmood, also a journalist, from Samarai Convention Center in city’s Panthapath area Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the authorities of the convention center barred the ‘Adarsha Dhaka Andolon’, supporters of defeated Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral election candidate Tabith Awal, from organizing post-election press conference.
Later, the ‘Adarsha Dhaka Andolon’ leaders including its convener Professor Emajuddin Ahmed, BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) president and poet Abdul Hye Sikder and general secretary Zahangir Alam leave the place.
DB (South) Deputy Commissioner Mashrukh Khaleda told banglanews that Shaukat Mahmood will be sent to the court shortly.
DMP deputy commissioner (media and public relations) Muntasirul Islam told banglanews Shaukat Mahmood is an accused of an arson attack case with Jatrabari Thana.
