CHANDPUR: District court on Thursday sent 34 leaders and activists of BNP and its major ally Jamaat-e-Islami to jail in the case of creating violence and obstacles in discharging government duty.
Chandpur senior judicial magistrate court-2 judge Shayla Sharmin passed the order after denying the bail plea of the defenders.
The accused included district unit BNP joint convener Joynal Abedin, Faridpur upazila unit BNP convener Sharif Mohammad Yunus and Jammat leaders Abdul Mannan and Yunus.
Defending lawyers Advocate Qamrul Islam told banglanews that earlier on January 5, BNP and Jamaat people locked into a clash with police in Faridpur upazila of the district.
Faridpur Thana sub-inspector (SI) Nizam Uddin filed a case against 81 including 34 above mentioned BNP-Jamaat men, he added.
