Charge hearing against Moudud deferred to Oct 5 Moudud Ahmed

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Tuesday deferred the date of charge hearing against BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed on October 5 in a case over accumulating wealth illegally and concealing information about it.

Judge Israil Hossain of special judge court-6 re-fixed the hearing date.

The hearing of Moudud’s appeal seeking acquittal from the charges will also be held on that day.

The hearing was deferred as an attested photocopy of the verdict by the High Court (HC) on the case was not produced before it.

On the other hand, Moudud’s lawyer Advocate Taherul Islam Tawhid also sought for time as the BNP leader did not attend the court on Tuesday.

The case statement said Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on July 3 of 2007 asked Moudud to inform the watchdog about the amount and sources of movable and immovable properties of his, his wife and other dependents on him.

On July of that year, Moudud submitted the estimated amount of his wealth.

On September 16 of that year, ACC deputy assistant director Shariful Haque Siddiqui filed a case with Gulshan Thana against Moudud Ahmed saying he earned illegal wealth worth over Tk 7.38-crore and concealed information of wealth worth Tk 4.30-crore.
