DHAKA: Leaders of ruling Awami League (AL) demanded trial of conspirators of the murder of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, from a mourning rally, held in city on Sunday.

Several thousands of AL leaders, activists and supporters attended the rally carrying black flags and wearing black badges.

The rally, which was brought out from Institution of Engineers auditorium premises, ended at Dhanmondi 32 in city this evening.

However, AL and its front organizations have been observing 40-day mourning, started from August 1, over the massacre of Bangabandhu and his family members on August 15.

Chief guest of the rally and also agriculture minister Matia Chowdhury said all of the murderers, who are now in hide in foreign land, should be brought back to face trial.

AL joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said that they should take a vow to uproot BNP-Jamaat as the patrons of militancy.
