DHAKA: Sacked ruling Awami League (AL) leader and former post and telecommunication minister Abdul Latif Siddique has resigned as a member of parliament (MP).
“I’ve resigned from my parliamentary post and I’ve no objection to others in this regard,” Latif told the House on Tuesday evening.
Claiming himself a Muslim, a Bangali as well as an Awami Leaguer, the former minister began his written speech with the permission of the Speaker.
By bowing his head, Latif begged pardon to the nation and announced his resignation.
Later, he submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker.
Following his controversial remarks made in September last year on hajj, Tablighi Jamaat and the premier’s son, dozens of cases were filed against him for hurting religious sentiment.
He was sacked from the cabinet on October 12 and also lost his party membership.
